Why Bullfighting, Golf And The 100Mt Dash Are Not Sport

Since before COVID, many sports are socially distant and no physical contact

Golf is not a sport. The 100 meter dash is not a sport. In fact most of Track and Field is not a sport. Swimming is not a sport. Even Body building is not a sport. I will not dignify Esports with comment. Any game or activity that does not require direct physical engagement with one or more opponents should not be called a sport. The social distance brought by COVID was already there in many so called sports. These are skilled and maybe even talented meditations … but not true sport.

By far the most antiseptic of games is golf. Sure those long drives and holes-in-one are interesting but the idea of taking joy from manipulating a tiny ball with a 10 ft pole … er long expensive tasty titanium golf club … is ludicrous and just says “keep away”. I will readily admit that I have little respect for the game of golf. Have to take recourse to Robin Williams’ wit on this:

Can one not play golf all by oneself? One must ask if a group is truly necessary to play the game. Others are actually required to be silent when someone is tee’ing off. The group for golf is about…
