How AI Will Clarify What Is Creative
Those of you who believe “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” or that every scribble is creative or that AI is creative … please find your corners and play … I promise to leave you alone. We are on the verge of an unprecedented level of reliance on AI for many complex but repetitive tasks. However, I refuse to cede the creative realm to AI. In fact, I believe that the use of AI will help clarify what is truly creative and what is merely recombination. I think that AI’s generative design capabilities will help clarify and spur humanity’s creative game.
Imagine your favorite art or poem or literature or music or movie. There are many factors that make it artistic and beguiling and arresting. Form and content are orthogonal elements and within those there are multiple sub factors in play to render a creative take. Notwithstanding all that, one central tenet to all art … no matter what type … is that it transcends the current understanding and organization of human values and reveals a heretofore unknown aspect.
