What could possibly possess someone to get on a music show stage and pee into someone’s mouth during the concert? I ain’t kiddin … see it here. Disgusting? Abhorrent? Rank sensationalism? Consensual … and to each their own? Victory for women who have unequal dress restrictions or were non-consensual victims of male exhibitionists? Fine it happened but is it worthy of remark? Is it just that her last name is Urista?

Strangely enough, without this much to unpack from this incident, it would probably not garner any attention. To gauge my network I sent that article/video out … and received all the reactions I just listed. Not only are they each worthy of remark, there are a few more perhaps important ones:

  1. why was the receiver of urine so happy? where is the line between insult/injury and good/pleasurable?
  2. why must we see/touch extremes to heighten our experience? why do we flirt with boundaries?
  3. is this a different 1%? should we care?

Lets try to be positive first:

  1. Way more people know the names of Sophia Urista and the band Brass Against with this single act than they ever did when the singer and her band were being “normal”. Definitely many more than was caused by Sophia’s appearance as a contestant on season 11 of The Voice. Stephen Colbert actually…
